Theo lives in Rotterdam where he works as a mathematics teacher. He visited the Lake District for the first time in '81. In the 90's he visited more regularly, approximately once a year. At first only in summer, but in recent years he's discovered the beauty of the Lakes in autumn and winter - inspired by several photography books of the Lakes. Theo says "Personally I much prefer these seasons: light and colours are much more beautiful than in summer".

He now divides his U.K. trips between Scotland and the Lakes. Scotland, he admits, has even more 'grandeur', but, travelling without a car, the Lakes have the great advantage that most parts are easily accessible by bus. One of Theo's trips coincided with the outbreak of F&M disease 2 years ago and made all fell-walking impossible, despite this he still had a very nice holiday because of the good weather and snow; "we were, so it seemed, the only tourists in the Lakes district, which added to the tranquil atmosphere".

His most recent trip was in early January 2003. "I had some splendid days, particularly the day on Skiddaw was great".  Theo uses a Minolta Dynax 7xi, preferring slides, because he feels they much better preserve the sense of scale.
