This gallery features the Lake District photos of John Paterson and his climb up Jack’s Rake on Pavey Ark, part of The Langdale Pikes. John was the first contributor to Snap the Lakes. He was a keen rock climber in his teens and 20's, and enjoyed several seasons climbing in the Alps, in the Zermatt, Chamonix and Grindlewald regions.
In 1998 he spent 2 weeks in the Taurus Mountains of Turkey, John recalls “it was wonderful walking country, a must for nature lovers - tortoises in the valleys and wild flowers everywhere”.
This Visitor Gallery features the photographs of Andrew Leaney. I'm sure if you are a fan of the Lake District then you will already know of Andrew from his Lake District website – theLakelandFells.
After living in the southeast for a number of years Andrew moved to Cumbria in 2001. During his time in Sussex he competed in orienteering events and mountain marathons all around the country. His first visit to the Lake District was with Lancaster Universities mountaineering club.
Andrew walks in the Lakes most weekends accompanied by his wife Anne. On his website he has documented over 900 walks nearly all of them illustrated with photographs taken on the walks.
The Visitor Gallery features the photographs of Andy Wallace, Andy was a regular contributor to the Photo of the Day section. Andy became hooked on fell walking after taking a short walk through Skelghyll Woods and has been walking in the Lake District at least once a week ever since.
He first started recording the details of his walks after meeting Peter Burgess, the founder of the Online Fellwalking Club, while walking near Pillar Rock. Peter asked if he would post a description of his walk on the fell walking club site, he did and found that he enjoyed writing about walking as much as actually doing it!
In June 2002 he got his first digital camera and this added another aspect to his enjoyment of the Lake District. Having accumulated lots of words and pictures about his walks he decided to create a web site - Share the Fell Walking Experience.
This Visitor Gallery features the photographs of Paul Thickitt. Paul first visited The Lakes in 1988 on a family day trip to Windermere and Ambleside and immediately fell in love with the Lakes.
More trips followed and he became increasingly fascinated by all the people wandering around in walking gear. He ransacked the local library for all the walking books he could find, Paul says “Bob Allen's book ‘On High Lakeland Fells’ was a particular influence and, after reading it several times, I decided that I too would like to climb a "mountain". After twisting my brother-in-law's arm somewhat to come with me I finally ventured into the hills in May 1990 and made my first ascent of a Lakeland (or indeed any) hill. We climbed High Street from Mardale Head, it was a warm, sunny day and the views were terrific. From that moment I was hooked”.
Paul still regularly walks in the Lake District whenever he can, more of his photos can be found on his website - Paul’s Lake District Photos.
This visitor gallery features the Lake District photos of Maureen Platts. Maureen was a regular contributor to the Photo of the Day section and submitted some excellent photographs of Tarn Hows and Blea Tarn some of which I’m really pleased to be able to feature here. More of Maureen’s photos can be viewed on her website – Walking with a Camera
Gerry’s first visit to the Lake District was in 1993 when he completed the Three Shires Fell Race. He has been coming back regularly ever since – running, walking or just enjoying browsing around the towns and villages. Gerry enjoys stopping at The Coledale Inn in Braithwaite, his favourite tipple is the Yates’s bitter. Borowdale is his favourite valley – "it has its own micro climate - I like to photograph the Lakes in its different moods and don't even mind the rain".
This gallery features the excellent aerial photographs taken by Simon Ledington from his gyrocopter. More of Simon’s photographs can be seen at Geograph.
This Lake District visitor gallery features the photographs of Graham Jackman, like many of us Graham was inspired to walk the Lakes after reading one of Wainwright's books.
Graham started walking in the Peak district back in 1994 after a friend at work gave him a recommended list of walks to try out. A weekend trip with a local conservation volunteer group climbed Cadair Idris in mid Wales and after enjoying that he decided to take on more ambitious high altitude routes. Walking books & maps for Snowdonia were duly purchased and he made his way through them.
After purchasing a book – Wainwrights Favourite Lakeland Fells from a bargain bookshop Graham decided to visit the Lakes and he’s been coming back every year since. Take a look at Graham’s Website for more photographs of the Lake District.
